I have been crafting in one way or another since I was young and have always liked to make things. When I was 5 my Nan taught me to knit, and I have since knitted scarves, jumpers and even teddy bears.
I have lived in Tunbridge Wells for about 12 years after moving from South London and work in the West End of London for a small property company. My role within the company is looking after all of the internal and external IT networks as well as the communications and anything else that needs to be done. It is a great company to work for and they are very understanding about my "addiction".
Then about 10 years ago I was flicking through the various channels on Sky (as you do!) and came across Dawn Bibby on QVC doing a TSV (Today's Special Value) consisting of a set of cardboard drawers containing lots of stuff to make greeting cards so I thought I would give it a go, that is when the "addiction" started! I used to record all of Dawn's shows to give me some inspiration and spend money!
As there was nowhere locally to purchase any crafting materials, I started looking on the internet and eBay to see what else I could buy (cheaper!) and came across some wonderful eBayers and lots of new and interesting products. One eBayer I met was a lady called Tina who was very helpful and seemed to be able to get hold of stuff that was on the TV, but was cheaper! Over the years, we exchanged emails and became friends.
Then when flicking through the Sky channels again! I came across Ideal World/Create & Craft - that was lethal as in the early days I was ordering almost every day.
In February 2006, I went to the NEC Trade Show to help Tina who was exhibiting for the very first time. I was totally "star struck" as most of the people I had seen on the TV were at the show. It was at this show that Tina introduced me to Wendy Stenton of WS Designs who told me that Tina was lucky to have someone like me to make samples for her, so I took the opportunity to give her my contact details and said that if she needed any samples, to get in touch - as if that was going to happen!!!!! A few weeks later I got a phone call from Wendy asking me to make a few samples for a TV show she had coming up, that is when the panic set in - were my cards good enough for the TV.
Over the remainder of 2006, things changed a lot, from helping Wendy teach, to helping out at shows in Newbury and then at the NEC to making my first TV appearance on Ideal World/Create & Craft with the Rock Hard Fairies. It was also during this time that I became a member of the Joanna Sheen Forum where I found myself being stalked (in a nice way!) by 2 of the members, Qatar Calling & Deevine! Being one of a handful of men on the forum has been a bonus! The forum is like one very, very extended family and I have met so many wonderful "Sheenies" with whom I have laughed with and cried with - long may it continue!
Now I can't believe we are approaching the end of 2007, where has the past year gone? This year has been even busier, and although it can be hard work as well as juggling it with a "normal" job, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself, meeting so many wonderful people at the various shows and shop demos during the course of the year.
2008, well what can I say - the old cliché "watch this space" I have a couple of new projects coming up in 2008 which I know will be very popular and as for my poor credit cards, they continue to melt as the "addiction" is not getting any weaker!
